MBA-MAA-1-30Although it is said that actions speak louder than words, sometimes when the two come together it can have a powerful effect.

Such is the case when it comes to the MBA’s Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA). This is a grass roots effort, supported by member firms and their employees, to help facilitate communication with our elected officials to promote industry interest. Their motto: “The larger the group; the louder the voice”.

Like any group or industry, our voices need to, and must, be heard. This is especially true when issues come into play which may have any impact on housing and mortgage lending. Such was the case of the extension of the increase in the GSE G-fees to fund highway improvements. Although our roadways may need improving, the cost to do so should not be levied as a tax on homeownership.

With the assistance of many MBA member employees, this extension was removed from the bill which passed the House overwhelmingly with a vote of 363-64. It goes to show you that sometimes the system does work. There’s still hope.

If your company is an MBA member you should definitely sign up at MBA.org to join the MAA. If your company is not a member of the MBA, then get them cracking to sign up. By working together, we can make changes that will benefit lenders, the industry, and the economy.

Don’t suffer in silence, or complain to those who cannot change things. Let your voice be heard where and when it counts. Join the MAA. Get involved. It’s your future.
